Description:
Much larger and broader-winged, elongated appearance, with smaller head, longer parallel-edged bill and longer legs. More elongated appearance structurally, with smaller head, longer parallel-edged bill and longer legs, compared with Heuglin's. Adult has paler grey upperparts and head whiter and less heavily marked than Heuglin's.
Distribution:
Uncommon passage migrant through Gilgit-Baltistan, rare in Ghizer, Shigar and Ghanche. Usually make short stops around lakes, marshes, streams and rivers with nearby vegetation and grasslands. During passage from lowlands up to 4000m high.
Behavior:
Forages mostly by wading on shoreline, mudflats and in intertidal zone, plunge-diving, and following ships/boats; also follows plough. Feeds mostly on fish where available, as well as insects, other invertebrates, mammals, refuse, scraps, offal, bird eggs and chicks, and insects.
